We’ve gone mobile!

This morning sees the official launch of the ‘Welcome to Scotland’ app for iOS and Android devices (that’s smartphones, tablets and iPods to the rest of us).  And that means the Shepherd’s House B&B has its first ‘proper’ mobile app listing.

We’ve been road-testing the app for a little while and have found it quite simple to navigate and find places to stay and things to do.  Unlike some other travel apps we could mention (they know who they are!), when you ask it for the nearest hotel, B&B, restaurant or whatever you want, it actually tells you what’s nearest rather than simply telling you which is the nearest establishment that has paid to get to the top of the list.  That’s a real bonus around east Loch Lomond, where things do tend to be spread out a bit, and especially if you’re on a walking holiday.  You really don’t need to be told the nearest place to stay is 10 miles back down the road when in fact it’s only a few yards further ahead.  So the Welcome to Scotland app gets a big thumbs up from us.

Better still, it works in French and German too.  We have a lot of overseas visitors here, especially from Germany, so we’re delighted at the chance to reach out to them in languages other than English.
